ROCK ON MOVIE REVIEW ONLINE

You'd be a fool to miss this one

A film about a bunch of friends who can do nothing but make music. Guys who come together, create 'Magik' only to be driven apart by their clashing ideologies, until time and tide brings them together for that one last time. The last hurrah! That in a nutshell, is what Abhishek Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar's Rock On is all about. Reminds you of Dil Chahta Hai or Jhankar Beats or for that matter any rocker film? My request to you would be, forget the comparison, sit back and let the music and the madness take over. Trust me, Rock On is a ride you will not regret taking.

Four friends, talented musicians, come together to form their amateur band, Magik. Luke Kenny (Rob), Farhan Akhtar (Aditya), Purab Kohli (KD) and Arjun Rampal (Jo) are a passionate bunch of people who are trying to get that big break which could change their lives, make good the sacrifices they have begun to make in their respective lives. But that so-called break commands a heavy price and that sees the end of Magik. Almost. A decade later, when things have not exactly turned out the way they hoped would be, they meet again. Thanks to the efforts of Aditya's wife Sakshi (Prachi Desai), who in spite of being married to him for four years, had no inkling about his past, his creative talent and his friends.

The music of Rock On has already hit the spot. And you have to watch the film to see how intelligently and sensitively the songs have been used for special moments, when words would never be adequate. There is a scene when Aditya's wife Sakshi comes back to her estranged husband, only to see him jamming once again with his rocker friends. It is a special moment, because for the first time in four years, she sees him smile, for the first time, he actually has let his guard down and welcomes her into his life, inviting her on his journey. She watches, smiling, as her husband sings with his old friends, the musician in him shining through the facade of a cut and dry investment banker for the very first time. And that's when one of the most beautiful love ballads in the film (Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein) takes over. The song about unending conversations, could not have been better timed.
